Renewable energy developer Statkraft has signalled it will not bid in the next round of offshore wind projects off the Irish coast.
As The Sunday Business Post reports, the company behind the North Irish Sea Array project will not participate in the forthcoming auction for the Tonn Nua site designated by the State off the south-east coast.
This comes just months after Corio Generation abandoned plans for an offshore wind farm in north Galway under the phase one round of offshore wind projects.
A statement issued by Statkraft to the newspaper said that the company “made the decision not to participate in the Offshore Renewable Energy Support Scheme (ORESS) as part of a strategic review process”.
The newspaper notes that the company and its Danish funding partner Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners had pledged to invest over 3 billion euro in constructing windfarms off the Irish coast.
Projects bidding for the Tonn Nua location will require greater funding, due to the deeper seabed area off the south-east coast.
The ORESS auction for Tonn Nua is expected to take place in November.
