Delivery challenges in the offshore wind sector will be discussed by the Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy on Wednesday (19th November).
The meeting will hear from representatives from:
- Wind Energy Ireland
- RWE Renewables Ireland Limited
- Statkraft Ireland
- DP Energy Ireland
Committee Cathaoirleach Naoise Ó Muirí said: “The committee will look at the proposed National Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP), which was published in draft form recently by the government”.
“This strategic plan designates renewable energy sites around Ireland’s coast that are suitable for offshore wind development. This includes sites for fixed and floating wind farms,” he said.
“Among the topics we hope to look at during the meeting are the institutional reforms announced by government in the past few months with the aim of accelerating the development of this important sector. These include the creation of an Offshore Wind Energy Clearing House,” he said.
“The Clearing House is tasked with providing additional high-level intervention from central government and is chaired by the Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach. This is in tandem with the Offshore Wind Delivery Taskforce, whose job it is to resolve any and all sectoral challenges.”
“We will look to those attending to provide the committee with their perspectives on what our government is undertaking to address the issues around the sector and specifically what they would implement.”
