The expansion of planned offshore wind turbines in Irish waters is the theme of a new documentary due for screening in Waterford next week.
Entitled Sale of the Sea, it will be screened at Garter Lane Theatre in Waterford by the Blue Horizon group.
The documentary by Irish filmmaker Mary Sue Connolly explores the rapid expansion of offshore wind turbines in Ireland.
Through interviews and investigative storytelling, Connolly looks at how we can achieve climate targets while still safeguarding our coastal environments and communities.
Presented by Blue Horizon, the film will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. The goal is to encourage an” open and respectful dialogue on renewable energy and community engagement”,the organisers say.
Blue Horizon is a community group in Waterford that is calling for any offshore wind projects to be sited away from ecologically sensitive areas and fishing grounds while keeping a minimum distance of 22km from the Irish coast.
The screening is on March 11th in the Garter Lane Theatre, Waterford and more details are here and here
