Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has opened a €1.8 million works tender for repairs to the supporting piles at St Michael's Pier in Dún Laoghaire Harbour.
The tender, published on 22 October 2026, seeks a contractor to undertake remedial repairs to some of the piles supporting the pier, which was constructed in the 1960s. The estimated contract value is €1.8 million, with tenders closing on 16 November 2026.
Repairs to Pier's Supporting Piles
St Michael's Pier is a suspended structure on the eastern side of the harbour, with berths 4 and 5 on either side. Its concrete deck is supported by 223 reinforced concrete piles extending into bedrock, according to the tender description.
The procurement, reference DLR/2026/151, specifies a 12-month contract duration. The council previously sought marine engineering consultancy services for pile repair design at St Michael's and Carlisle piers, as well as cathodic protection design for St Michael's Pier.
Separate from Cruise Access Plans
The tender comes amid other harbour proposals, including plans to reorganise cruise-passenger access at St Michael's Pier. The council has also published a wider Dún Laoghaire Harbour Masterplan.
The pile-repair tender is a separate procurement. The notice does not establish that the repairs are specifically for the cruise-access proposals or a proposed offshore wind operations base.
The €1.8 million is an estimated contract value, not an awarded contract or confirmation that works have begun. Tender information can be located using reference DLR/2026/151 on eTenders.
