Plans are being filed with An Coimisiún Pleanála (ACP) to dismantle and decommission the Arklow wind farm off the Wicklow coast.
As RTÉ News reports, Arklow Energy Ltd is applying to dismantle and remove seven wind turbine generators and all ancillary works attached to phase one of the Arklow wind farm.
Ireland’s only offshore wind farm to date, it began generating electricity 21 years ago and stopped in 2024 after major faults with three turbines.
A new windfarm on the Arklow Bank is one of five offshore wind projects seeking planning permission in the Irish Sea.
These include Arklow Bank Windpark 2, Codling Wind Park, the Dublin Array, North Irish Sea Array and Oriel.
Planning permission is being sought up to June 2033 for the existing Arklow wind farm decommissioning to match the duration of the foreshore lease.
