Bangor man Bill O'Hara has been appointed Race Officer for the inaugural IRC Northern Ireland Championships, scheduled for July 19th and 20th.
This event marks the final of the Irish Sea Nations Cup inaugural challenge and will be hosted by the Royal Ulster Yacht Club on Belfast Lough under the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) support.
Bill is eager for the event. "My schedule with professional events keeps me overseas most of the summer so it’s great when I am free to do an event at my own club. Really looking forward to working with a great RUYC team both on and off the water."
Bill is an International Race Officer and a member of the Royal Ulster and Ballyholme Yacht Clubs. He is an Irish Olympian who participated in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics. Bill has many proud achievements, including attending eight Olympic Games in total, variously as a competitor, coach, member of the International Jury, and rules advisor.
Rory Flannigan from the Major Events Committee of RUYC is thrilled that Bill has consented to be Race Officer, stating, “Despite the challenging wind conditions at Bangor Regatta 2024, Bill was able to provide four great days of racing, and I know Bill will deliver the same.”
