Cruise ships could be used to provide accommodation for the Ryder Cup in 2027.
A report by Ken Foxe for The Sunday Times says the proposal has been made to a steering group established as part of Ireland’s preparations for the prestigious international golf event.
He cites minutes from the group that reflect concerns about insufficient accommodation.
An option to use cruise ships berthed at Foynes near Limerick on the Shannon Estuary is mentioned for both spectators and staff, with rail transportation to and from Limerick.
Up to 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the biennial event in September 2027.
