Dun Laoghaire Coastguard has warned of 'unacceptable behaviour' by Jet skiers close to the Dublin Bay shore.
Thursday was a hive of maritime activity on the bay's south shore. The Forty Foot bathing place was thronged with swimmers in the current heat wave.
A cruise liner was moored at the ship anchorage and ferried passengers to and from Dun Laoghaire during the day.
The first day of a 200-boat children's Optimist Championships was underway.
Even though DBSC yacht racing, the bay's primary recreational boating organiser, was cancelled due to light winds, numerous yachts ventured out into the Scotsman's Bay area for an evening sail. Other assorted yachts and motorboats anchored off Sandycove, Dalkey Sound, and Sorrento Point in Killiney Bay to enjoy the fine weather.
The evening was blighted by jet skiers operating at high speed close to the shore and in proximity to other other boats and swimmers.
In a tweet, Dun Laoghaire Coastguard highlighted the DLR Beach Bye Law from 2012: "Jet skis must not be operated within 300 metres of the foreshore and can only operate before 10 am and after 7.30 pm".
