Stena Line says it plans to invest up to £20m to upgrade the Port of Fishguard in South Wales, which connects its southern Irish Sea service to Rosslare in Co. Wexford.
The company’s investment will pay for the Pembrokeshire port’s new linkspan, a type of drawbridge that allows vehicles to be driven on board and off a ferry.
Work on the new linkspan is hoped to commence in 2026, with the new infrastructure set to be completed the following year.
Stena said the announcement signaled a firm commitment to the St. George's Channel port for the "next 30 to 40 years."
In 2018 a plan to build a new linkspan was cancelled, which raised concern locally about the future of the southwest Wales port, which Stena Line operates.
More BBC News reports about the company, which has already invited tenders for the construction project.
