The largest ferry operator on the Irish Sea, Stena Line, is to invest €16 million in the ongoing refit and upgrades of its fleet, the company has announced.

Its Irish Sea fleet comprises 11 ferries operating on routes linking to Scotland, England, and Wales.

The routes include three from Belfast to Cairnryan, Birkenhead (Liverpool), and Heysham, as well as two from Dublin to Birkenhead (freight-only) and Holyhead, along with the route from Rosslare to Fishguard.

The multi-million investment, according to the Swedish-owned ferry firm, would enable a “wide range of enhancements and modernization" across the fleet.

Work to upgrade the fleet is to include enhancing the Stena Plus lounges and those featuring family entertainment areas. As for cabin accommodation, they too will receive extensive improvements to increase the number of pet-friendly cabins, which has seen a notable demand in recent years.

Commenting on the development, Stena Line’s Irish Sea fleet manager, Mark Scouler, said, "This investment demonstrates our dedication to delivering the highest standards of safety, efficiency, comfort, and reliability for our customers.

More, The Irish Times has on the modernisation of the region’s fleet upgrade.
