Two major support schemes for the Irish fishing fleet have reopened, offering fresh investment opportunities for vessel owners.
The Sustainable Fisheries Scheme and the Small-Scale Coastal Fisheries Scheme are delivered under Ireland’s €258 million Seafood Development Programme, co-funded by the Government and the EU through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund. Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) administers both schemes.
Richard Donnelly, Interim CEO of BIM, said the grants “support the fishing sector to add more value and diversify their operations in a strategic way that will drive their businesses through change”. He added that BIM is working with Minister Dooley, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and industry “to navigate the challenges ahead and ensure best possible outcomes for Irish fishers and coastal communities”.
The Sustainable Fisheries Scheme here offers 50% support for onboard investments by eligible non-small-scale coastal fishing vessel owners. Funding covers technology and equipment to improve fish handling, quality, traceability, hygiene, and onboard health and safety, as well as energy efficiency upgrades to reduce fuel use and emissions.
The Small-Scale Coastal Fisheries Scheme here provides 80% support for onshore and offshore investments. Eligible owners can access funding for processing equipment, gear improvements to enhance species selection and fish quality, traceability tools, and energy efficiency measures.
Both schemes close on Tuesday, 30 December.
Further details on eligibility, grant rates, and application processes are available from BIM.
