A judge has directed that a supertrawler detained over alleged fisheries offences be released on a bond of €450,000.
As previously reported on Afloat.ie, the German-registered MFV Helen Mary was been detained in Irish waters by a European Fisheries Control Agency patrol vessel, the Ocean Protector.
The 117-metre factory supertrawler was escorted into Cork Harbour to the Port of Cork’s deepwater berth at Lisheen in Tivoli earlier this week.
According to The Journal, the Helen Mary’s Dutch master Willem Van Der Boon appeared in court on Thursday (20 February) facing seven charges relating to alleged breaches of EU fisheries regulations off the South West Coast of Ireland.
Van Der Boon, with an address in the Netherlands, was released on bail pending his appearance before Cork Circuit Criminal Court on 28 April.
