The master of a French-registered fishing vessel has been convicted and fined €3,000 for under-recording of sole in Irish waters, the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) says.
The master of the Rio Da Bouza pleaded guilty at Macroom district court, Co Cork, on September 11th to illegal fishing activity.
The vessel was detained at Castletownbere on September 9th, following an inspection by SFPA officers.
The SFPA says the court heard evidence of how its officers detected the following: under recording of sole, under-recording of monkfish, failure to separately stow sole and monkfish, and unauthorised freezing of fish.
It says the master pleaded guilty to all six charges. He was convicted and fined €3,000 for the charge of under recording of sole, and the outstanding charges were taken into consideration by the judge, the SFPA says.
The SFPA commended its officers for the “thorough inspection "
This is the second court case involving a French-registered vessel in Irish waters this month.
