Michael Finn has been appointed by Minister of State for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Timmy Dooley as acting chair of the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA).
Mr Finn has been an authority member of the SFPA since October 2022, and the interim role arises following the retirement of the former SFPA executive chair Paschal Hayes earlier this year.
He will hold this interim position until the appointment of a new executive chair, the SFPA says, with a competitive process to be launched in due course.
He will continue to work alongside fellow authority member Louise Murphy.
Mr Finn has over 40 years of public service amassed in a wide range of operational, administrative and strategic managerial roles.
He has vast experience in the areas of operational enforcement and compliance having worked at all levels up to commissioner level within An Garda Síochána, the SFPA says.
“In addition to his operational experience, Michael has significant experience in the areas of organisational transformation having spearheaded An Garda Síochána’s restructuring programme as well as leading out on a number of significant IT projects,”it says.
