Tánaiste Simon Harris and two ministers of state will “break the ground” for construction of the new Irish Coast Guard station in Greystones, Co Wicklow, next Tuesday (Nov 18).
Greystones is home to Mr Harris, and he will be accompanied by Minister of State for Transport Seán Canney, who has special responsibility for the Irish Coast Guard, and Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW Kevin Boxer Moran.
The construction start comes after years of delays, with over €300,000 reportedly spent to date on the project.
Designs and costs were signed off on almost five years ago. The formal transfer of the site from the local authority to the Office of Public Works (OPW) took place in September 2023.
The local Coast Guard unit is currently based in a building beside Greystones Garda Station.
Delays in developing the new station also delayed the planned refurbishment of the Garda station.
