Ards and North Down Borough Council is inviting boat owners and visiting sailors to Bangor Marina on Belfast Lough following its takeover of the facility’s operation in April 2026.
The council assumed direct management of the marina after negotiations with previous operator boatfolk failed to secure agreement on commercial terms for a renewed contract.
Bangor Marina, one of the largest marina facilities on the island of Ireland, continues to offer annual, flexible and visiting berthing in the sheltered North Down harbour.
The marina had been operated by boatfolk since 2020. The company confirmed the management contract ended on 31 March 2026 after an extended tender process with the council.
In a statement, boatfolk thanked marina staff and customers for their support during the transition.
“Some of whom have served the marina and harbour and its customers for over 30 years,” the company said.
The council is now promoting new berthing options for the 2026–27 season, including annual contracts, flexible monthly berthing and short-stay visitor rates.
According to newly published marina tariffs, annual standard berthing is priced from £377 per metre for fixed-term pay-in-full contracts, while visitor berthing starts at £4 per metre daily.
Bangor Marina says its pontoons remain protected by extensive breakwaters, offering “a uniquely sheltered, safe and secure home” for berth holders throughout the year.
Flexible summer berthing between April and September is priced at £56 per metre per month, with winter rates reduced to £34 per metre monthly.
The marina is also encouraging short-term visitors and cruising sailors to use the facility during the 2026 season.
The council has directed customers to its Bangor Marina webpages for full contract details and availability.
