One of Cork’s most iconic lighthouses, the Old Head of Kinsale Lighthouse, in the west of the county is opening its doors to the public for just one weekend this month.

This will give a rare chance for visitors to climb to the top of the lighthouse and soak up some truly breathtaking views of the rugged coastline.

The annual open weekend takes place on Saturday, 29 August, and Sunday, 30 August, and is one of the only times the lighthouse is accessible, as otherwise the Commissioners of Irish Lights facility is normally closed to the public.

Those intending to travel will be able to use a hop-aboard shuttle bus service from the Old Head Signal Tower to the lighthouse. Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the historic lighthouse and take in panoramic views from the lantern across the Atlantic.

There is no requirement to book in advance, but tickets cost €15 for adults or €40 for a family.
