The maritime transport sector plays a pivotal role for the economy and competitiveness of the Atlantic area, yet it remains a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving the ambitious goal of reducing these emissions requires collaborative efforts and concrete actions. To this end, this workshop will bring together technology providers, developers, and end-users to discuss the primary focus of innovation and development needs towards neutrality in the near future.
There will be two panel sessions on the day, one technology focused panel which will explore digitalisation, OPS, alternative fuels and the direction these technologies are taking and the challenges in their implementation e.g. costs, availability, limited users etc. The second panel will include users of the technology and will cover what technologies are being explored to help meet targets in the short term, what future technologies are looking challenging & their barriers to adoption, and where are the main obstacles to decarbonising maritime and what are the suggested solutions.
Panel 1: Technology
Moderator: Edel O’Connor, IMDO
Panellists: Dr. Michael Scriney, Assistant Professor at Insight SFI Research Centre, DCU
