“Shipping is changing fast; technically, operationally and strategically,” the Chief Executive of the Nautical Institute says as it launches a new film to “highlight how the maritime industry’s shared purpose and shared challenges continue to unite professionals across oceans, sectors and generations.”

CEO Captain John Lloyd said the purpose of the film ‘The Sea Connects Us All’ is to “support maritime professionals with the practical knowledge, confidence and professional standards needed to meet today’s challenges and those still to come.”

The Institute is an international membership organisation for maritime professionals, working at sea and ashore, and a leading authority in the maritime industry. It has a global network spanning 50 countries, including the Irish branch.

“The changes in shipping are felt most directly by the people responsible for making safe, effective decisions every day,” says Captain Lloyd. “Over the past decade, shipping has experienced a significant transformation. Geopolitical uncertainty has altered cruise itineraries and risk profiles, while expanded regulatory requirements have increased demands on training, competence and leadership across all operational levels. The transition toward alternative fuels has introduced new operational complexity. Simultaneously, rapid digitalisation is transforming shipboard systems, connectivity and decision-making processes both at sea and ashore.

The film is available to watch on the Nautical Institute website: https://www.nautinst.org/

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
