Warrenpoint Harbour Authority (WHA) has signed a 55-year operating agreement with CLdN, securing the future of the Port’s key freight link with Heysham.
The long-term deal underpins the high-frequency RoRo service that handles around 125,000 freight units and trade cars annually.
WHA said the agreement represents a major investment in the Port and reinforces the strategic importance of the Irish Sea corridor, through which 95% of consumer goods arrive on the island by sea.
The service supports two-way trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain, moving machinery from the Mid Ulster quarrying sector, aerospace components including Spirit AeroSystems tail fin assemblies, food products and other non-perishable goods.
The agreement took effect on 1 January 2026.
David Holmes, Chief Executive of WHA, said the partnership reflects “the critical role Warrenpoint plays as a gateway for trade between Ireland, Great Britain, and global markets”.
He added: “The agreement provides long-term certainty for the Port, our customers, and the wider logistics ecosystem.”
Florent Maes, Chief Executive Officer of CLdN, said the deal provides “long-term visibility” to further develop the Warrenpoint–Heysham route.
“The Warrenpoint-Heysham service is an essential one for trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland,” he said.
CLdN strengthened its Irish Sea presence in 2022 with the acquisition of Seatruck Ferries Ltd and currently employs around 50 staff at Warrenpoint.
