Plans for a possible multi-sports facility at the Schull pier area in West Cork were outlined at the 48th AGM of Schull Harbour Sailing Club. Exploratory discussions are under way with other interested parties.

The meeting was held on Tuesday, December 30. Commodore Jack Allan welcomed a large attendance and reported a strong sailing season.

Membership increased during the year. Two new boats also joined the club’s cruiser fleet.

Junior sailing captain Ronan Goggin said it had been a successful season for young sailors. The juniors won the inter-club Marconi Cup.

The junior fleet also expanded. Two additional Squib keelboats were acquired, bringing the total to six.

A new adult “Taste of Sailing” initiative was highlighted. It was introduced during summer 2025 and was described as a success.

Discussion on the proposed pier development was led by Vice Commodore John McGowan. He said the idea had generated “great discussion and debate” among members.

The AGM concluded with a presentation by Tom Newman. He spoke about his solo voyage to the Azores in summer 2025 aboard his Contessa 32 Sittelle.

The club’s annual Car Treasure Hunt took place on December 31. Dry weather helped attract 21 teams and families.

Funds raised will go to local causes, Schull Regatta, and Schull Creates. Organisers Carmel O’Regan and Frank Murphy were thanked for the event.
