OSTAR: Hurley's 21-day 'match race'

15th June 2009

After 21 days at sea, Barry Hurley and Italian sailor Luca Zuccoli had an exciting match-race to the OSTAR finish line in Newport this morning, with Barry hugging the shore line (a trick learned from his years sailing in Cork Harbour) and crossing the line literally just minutes ahead. The result put him first over the line in his class, and also first on IRC corrected time. An early report from the shore crew, Bob Hobby and Barry's sister Aileen, is that Barry cannot believe the finish was so close. Our exclusive finish line photos (over the fold) show Newport's Jamestown bridge in the background.
