Foynes regatta postpone for Volvo Galway event

Foynes Yacht Club has taken the decision to postpone their annual Cruiser regatta due to a clash with the Volvo Ocean Race stop over in Galway. The original dates for the Annual Cruiser Regatta were Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May 2009 which directly clash with the Inport Race of the Volvo Ocean Race taking place in Galway.

The committee of Foynes Yacht Club have released dates that the Annual Cruiser Regatta will now take place on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September 2009.

Foynes Yacht Club have links with the Volvo Ocean Race more than most, one of its members Edwin O Connor is crew member onboard Delta Lloyd the Dutch-Irish entry. Delta Lloyd which did not start leg five of the race due to structural damage but are presently in Rio De Janeiro preparing  for the Inport race there and the start to leg six on the 11th April 2009.  

The new dates of the Foynes Yacht Club Annual Cruiser Regatta will allow members of Foynes Yacht Club and potential participants to go and see the great spectacle of the Volvo ‘70 in Galway Bay during the Inport Races and will dovetail in nicely with the Royal Western Yacht Club of Ireland – ‘Shannon Ferry October Series’ which commences on the 04th October 2009

The Foynes Yacht Club Annual Cruiser Regatta is part of the ‘Onesails McWilliam West Coast Super League 2009’ endorsed by the West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association, Irish Cruiser Racing Association.

Let's Do It Galway the organisers of the Galway Volvo Ocean Race Stopover are delighted that Foynes Yacht Club have postponed their annual cruiser regatta to enable participants to travel to Galway. “Galway Bay on the weekend of 30/31 May for the inport and pro-am races, will be a spectacle not to be missed whether you are viewing it from sea or from the Salthill promenade'.
