The holding is being offered by private treaty or tender at a later date and may be sold either as a single lot or in separate parcels.
The sale includes a large waterfront estate with a principal residence, a collection of houses, a restaurant and bar, agricultural land, historic military structures and a private island.
Island Estate: The principal residence forms part of the largest lot within the Whiddy Island portfolio, which includes approximately 187 acres of waterfront land and a private slipway
Whiddy Island lies in the sheltered waters of Bantry Bay, a short ferry journey from Bantry town. The island has a history stretching back thousands of years, from early settlement and monastic communities to maritime trade, military fortifications and strategic energy infrastructure.
Bay Panorama: The sale comprises approximately 226 acres across Whiddy Island, including farmland, homes, commercial property, historic sites and coastal frontage overlooking Bantry Bay
Among the largest lots is a waterfront holding at Trawnahaha comprising a detached two-storey house, outbuildings and approximately 75.7 hectares (187.1 acres) of land. The property occupies a prominent seafront position and includes direct water access via a private slipway. The estate is currently used mainly as pasture and includes agricultural buildings. The sale particulars highlight potential for farming, tourism, recreation, wellness and water-based activities, subject to any required consents.
Several standalone homes are also included in the offering. These range from traditional island cottages to larger family houses, with some requiring renovation and modernisation. The portfolio includes Kelly's House at Trawnahaha, a three-bedroom waterfront dwelling with direct sea frontage, and Kilmore House, a three-bedroom residence with an adjoining one-bedroom apartment.
Also included are Cotter's House, a four-bedroom property in Kilmore, Gallow's Hill, a two-bedroom dwelling at Trawnahaha, and the former Teacher's House in Kilmore. Island Enterprise: The Bank House Restaurant & Bar, together with residential accommodation, is included in the extensive Whiddy Island offering
One of the most historically significant elements of the estate is The Battery at Crowkingle. Built in 1804, the circular fortification formed part of a British coastal defence network established after the attempted French invasion of Bantry Bay in 1796. The sale also includes a derelict ruin near the Middle Battery, set on approximately 0.37 hectares, with planning permission previously granted and subject to renewal.
Rural Retreat: Gallow's Hill is among several residential properties included in the sale and offers views across the island's rolling farmland and coastline
Rabbit Island, extending to approximately 1.2 hectares (2.95 acres), is offered as part of the overall holding. Located close to Whiddy Island, it offers a secluded, private island setting in Bantry Bay.
Whiddy Island is served year-round by passenger ferries linking it to Bantry. The island remains home to a small community and is known for its maritime heritage, coastal scenery and strategic role in Irish history. Maps and a detailed sales brochure are available from the selling agents.
