Salmon Conservation To Be Discussed By Joint Oireachtas Committee

21st April 2026
“Catch
Catch concern — Wild salmon under pressure as Oireachtas committee examines stock decline, river habitats and water quality, with Inland Fisheries Ireland and campaign groups set to give evidence

Salmon conservation is to be discussed by the Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy on Wednesday.

The meeting at 12:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Dublin, will hear from representatives of:

  • Inland Fisheries Ireland
  • Moy Action Group
  • Salmon Watch Ireland
  • Technical Experts Group on Salmon

Committee cathaoirleach Naoise Ó Muirí said “this vulnerable species conservation is led by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) alongside government, angling groups and environmental NGOs”.

“We will look for more information from IFI on how it sets annual regulations for Ireland’s salmon rivers and their designations,” he said.

“Other issues we will look at during the engagement will include habitat restoration projects and programmes to tackle water quality,” he said.

The Committee meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
