On Sunday 6 October, members of Arklow RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crew departed the lifeboat station to travel to the All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole and bring the station’s new Shannon class lifeboat Roy Holloway to its new home.
When they reach the RNLI Lifeboat College in Poole, Dorset, they will undergo final training before returning on passage back to Arklow, with a few stops en route.
The lifeboat crew members with the honour of bringing the new boat home are Ned Dillon, Eddie McElheron, Liam O’Neill, James Russell and Craig O’Reilly.
Arklow RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat press officer Mark Corccroan said: “It’s an exciting time to be involved at Arklow RNLI, with our new lifeboat arriving and our own 200 year celebrations coming up soon.
“To help us welcome the town’s new lifeboat, we would love to see as many people as possible at the lifeboat station for 1pm on Sunday 13 October. All are welcome.”
Arklow RNLI is continuing to fundraise for the new vessel. To make a donation please email [email protected] or call 040 232 850.
