Fethard RNLI in County Wexford responded to two kayakers in difficulty off Baginbun Beach on Thursday evening. The incident occurred in force five winds, prompting onlookers to alert the Coast Guard.
The inshore lifeboat Naomh Dubhán launched at 5.42 pm. The crew, led by Helm James Barry, reached the scene shortly after 6 pm. They were assisted by Fethard-on-Sea Coast Guard, with good visibility despite the winds.
The kayakers were wearing personal flotation devices and were unharmed. Their quick thinking in tying their kayaks together prevented them from being blown apart.
After assessing the situation, the crew decided to transfer the kayakers to the lifeboat. They towed the kayaks back to Baginbun Beach to prevent any navigation hazards.
Helm James Barry stated, “We would like to commend the kayakers’ friends on shore who did the right thing by calling for help.”
