Vini Cardoso, a long-distance runner from Howth, has begun a remarkable journey to run 2,200 km around the coast of Ireland. His aim is to raise funds for RNLI lifeboat crews across the nation.
Starting from Howth RNLI, Vini will visit every RNLI lifeboat station along Ireland's coastline. He will rely on pre-arranged supplies and carry 14–18 kg of gear in his backpack.
"Their bravery, commitment, and selflessness are humbling," he said, highlighting the work of the volunteer crews. Vini added, "Every kilometre is dedicated to the brave men and women of the RNLI."
Having previously run 1,000 km across Ireland in 2024, Vini's current challenge is larger in distance and scope. This journey reflects themes of community, resilience, and gratitude.
Rose Michael of Howth RNLI fundraising branch said: “We are delighted to support Vini’s extraordinary challenge. His journey is not only a physical feat but a heartfelt tribute to volunteer lifeboat crews across Ireland. Every step he takes celebrates the spirit of service that binds our communities. All the funds raised by Vini will go to RNLI lifeboat stations all over Ireland to allow them to continue their lifesaving work.”
