World ARC 2026‑27 officially began on 10 January in Saint Lucia. The fleet set off at midday local time in around 15 knots of northeasterly wind.

Many sailors described crossing the start line as a significant achievement after years of planning. Tommaso Amadori from Cashew said, “I’m so excited. I can’t wait to start the trip across the Pacific, and going through the Panama Canal is going to be a blast!”

Crews spent their time in Saint Lucia preparing their boats and taking part in social and safety events ahead of departure. Organisers said this helped build camaraderie across the fleet before the cruise.

The programme was supported by World Cruising Club, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and Events Saint Lucia, with crews accommodated at IGY Rodney Bay Marina.

Over the next 15 months, the World ARC fleet will make landfall in 19 countries. The rally offers sailors a chance to experience diverse cultures and visit remote destinations not easily reached by air.

Some crews plan to take extended breaks during the voyage and rejoin future editions of the rally. World ARC runs annually and offers flexibility in participation.

The 2026‑27 fleet includes eight family crews and seven double‑handed boats. Despite varied backgrounds, participants share the goal of completing the global voyage.

Will Lee from Sea Wisdom II said, “I’m very excited because this has been a dream for decades. I’m really looking forward to doing it with my wife Chloe…”

World ARC will transit the Panama Canal at the end of January, marking the start of the Pacific leg of the 10,000‑nautical‑mile journey. Every stop will be an opportunity to explore new places and meet local communities.
