Brody Sweeney of Dublin is “Sailor of the Month (Cruising)” for February

1st March 2026
“Helen
Helen Markey, wife of ICC Commodore Alan Markey, presents Brody Sweeney with the club’s premier trophy, the Faulkner Cup, for an unusual cruise in his 1979 Jeanneau 32 to Morocco and the Canaries. The modest Faulkner Cup of 1930 would be known to silverware specialists as a Protestant chalice, while the ICC’s trophy from the mid 1930s, the more exuberant Wybrants Cup, is a replica of the Ardagh Chalice.

The Irish Cruising Club’s AGM of February 20th saw the distribution of the club’s many seagoing awards, with the premier trophy, the Faulkner Cup, going to Brody Sweeney of Dublin who – having restored his 46-year-old Jeanneau 32 Wodan - cruised to the Canaries sometimes single-handed, sometimes crewed, with a number of Moroccan ports visited.

Morocco is relatively little-known cruising territory, and in the best ICC traditions, his information will be invaluable to fellow members hoping to follow in his wake. The feeling is that Wodan was exactly the right boat for the job - not too fancy to invite a rip-off in port, yet so obviously well cared for that she and her skipper were treated with respect.
