The Cruising Association will host a week-long programme of talks and seminars aimed at improving cruising skills and promoting affordable boating.

Cruising Skills Week runs from 23–28 March 2026, offering a series of free evening webinars and a hybrid seminar for sailors of all experience levels.

Organisers say the initiative is designed to widen access to practical knowledge and encourage more people to go cruising.

“The aim of the week is to share knowledge and highlight affordable boating,” said organisers from the Cruising Association (CA). “The programme is designed to support the wider cruising community and those interested in developing their skills.”

Sessions begin on 23 March with guidance on buying a first boat, including insurance considerations and common purchasing pitfalls.

On 24 March, talks focus on preparing both crew and vessel for cruising, alongside practical advice on rigging checks and tuning.

The following evening, 25 March, sailing writer Dick Durham presents Confessions of a Cruising Correspondent, reflecting on a lifetime of cruising stories.

Safety takes centre stage on 26 March with sessions covering emergency procedures, man overboard drills and advice from the RNLI.

The programme continues on 27 March with discussions on European inland waterways cruising routes and insights from the UK Harbour Masters Association.

The week concludes on 28 March with the Go Affordable Boating Seminar, delivered both online and in person at CA House in London.

Topics include cruising on a budget, practical boat maintenance, and ways to get afloat without owning a boat. Tickets cost £10 online or £28 in person, including lunch.

The CA says the initiative reflects its aim to share expertise beyond its membership and support those considering cruising or building their skills.

“All are welcome,” organisers said, encouraging sailors and prospective cruisers to explore the programme and book sessions online.
