More Irish sailors are on the start line for the final round of the 2025 44Cup in the Canary Islands this week.
Cork duo Johnny Durcan and Revilin Minihane from Baltimore Sailing Club will compete aboard Warp5, the fleet’s trial boat.
As Afloat previously reported, they join a growing Irish contingent in Fuerteventura, where Simon Johnson from Wicklow sails with Black Star Racing.
Cian Guilfoyle returns to the French Aleph Racing team, joined by Donaghdee’s Oisin McClelland. Grattan Roberts of Royal Cork is racing with Team Ceeref Vaider.
The 44Cup season wraps up at Marina Jandía, with racing from 20 to 23 November and a practice session on 19 November.
This marks the fleet’s first visit to the newly built marina, located on the island’s southern coast.
Despite ongoing construction nearby, the venue is already welcoming international competition.
Known for steady trade winds and proximity to the Jandía Nature Reserve, the location offers sheltered waters and flexible racecourse options.
Ten teams are expected on the start line, including J/80 World Champion Alberto Padron, joining Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team as a trimmer.
The high-performance owner-driver class will decide both the event winner and the overall season champion in this final showdown.
