Sir Ben Ainslie’s Athena Racing has updated its website to confirm itself as the Challenger of Record for the 38th America’s Cup.

It follows a weekend meeting in London between the teams that took part in the 37th America’s Cup last year — including Sir Ben’s team, which raced as INEOS Britannia until a sensational split between INEOS and its Olympic legend skipper and team principal less than two weeks ago.

The team quickly announced its rebranding as Athena Racing, and most importantly maintains that it, and not Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, represents the Royal Yacht Squadron — despite the latter pledging to continue under the Britannia name.

In addition, as SailWeb reports, Athena Racing claims that the acceptance of Royal Yacht Squadron Racing’s Challenge letter by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has established it as the Challenger of Record for the 38th edition of the America’s Cup, set to be raced in 2027.
