The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) is mourning the loss of His Highness the Aga Khan, who passed away on February 4, 2025. A pioneer in the world of yachting, he founded the club in 1967, promoting sailing and environmental awareness.

His vision initiated a non-profit sporting association, bringing together sea lovers to celebrate excellence. Under his leadership, the YCCS became a global benchmark for sailing events.

The Aga Khan's influence was pivotal in the Italian challenge for the America's Cup in 1981, with the Azzurra team becoming a symbol of inspiration and ambition.

He also achieved a remarkable feat in 1992 with the Destriero, setting an unbeaten transatlantic record. 

In alignment with his commitment to the environment, he launched the One Ocean initiative, emphasising marine preservation. The YCCS continues to uphold his values through programmes like Young Azzurra, supporting emerging talent in sailing.

The YCCS community expresses deepest condolences to the Aga Khan family and the Ismaili community, vowing to carry on his legacy of passion for the sea.history of Italian sailing and established the YCCS as an international benchmark in the yachting world.
