Volvo Cork Week Regatta's International Race Officer Con Murphy got its famed Harbour race off to a clean start this Wednesday (July 17) afternoon with yachts of all sizes jostling for position on the all-in start on Ireland's longest startline.
The start line stretched for over .5 nautical mile and was fixed between the start boat anchored below Weavers Point and the E1 navigation mark below Roches Point at the entrance to Cork Harbour.
The wind was from 190 degrees and 10 knots in strength to make for ideal racing conditions.
Our sequence of three photos (below) taken by the Race Officer depicts the view of the fleet from the start vessel at ninety seconds to go, one minute to and the actual start
The course to be sailed was as follows:
- Large Red inflatable (P) (laid approx 3nm bearing 190 degrees from start line)
- Nav Mark No.13 (P)
- Nav Mark No.20 (P)
- Nav Mark No.18 (S)
- Nav Mark No.8 (P)
- Finish at Nav Mark No. 3.
