Cork offshore racer Conor Doyle is reported to be "in good form" after being airlifted from Freya during the Rolex Fastnet Race.
A RORC Fastnet spokesperson indicated that only limited information is currently available regarding the incident.
But Kinsale Yacht Club reported this afternoon (July 29th) that its club member, skipper of the XP 50 Freya, was air lifted from his yacht following a fall.
According to initial reports, the skipper was injured, and race organisers advised direct contact with HM Coastguard, which is best equipped to provide medical assistance.
The Coastguard subsequently carried out an airlift, and Freya is continuing toward Cherbourg.
Happily, KYC also reports that Doyle, a 2022 Middle Sea Race Class winner, "is in good form" despite the ordeal.
Freya is lying 24th in IRC 1 and 91st in IRC overall in the 450 boat fleet with 159 miles left to sail to the Cherbourg finish line.
