A Norwegian sailor, Helga Marie (Mara) Løvenskiold Kveseth, plans to begin a solo Atlantic crossing in January, sailing from Tangier, Morocco to Saint Lucia. The journey will be broadcast live on her YouTube channel, giving the public a rare real-time view of ocean life.
If successful, the voyage could be the world’s first fully livestreamed solo Atlantic crossing — and a digital sailing first.
The five-week voyage is also a mandatory qualifier for the Golden Globe Race 2026 — a solo, non-stop, unassisted round-the-world yacht race using only 1960s-era technology.
Mara’s boat, Showgirl, is a 36-foot monohull that has been fully refitted for the crossing. It will be her first-ever solo offshore voyage.
“I want to show the real, unfiltered reality — the silent hours, the small moments, and the challenges you never see on social media,” Mara said.
The livestream will run continuously, showing daily life at sea including calm passages, storms, maintenance, sleep, and moments of isolation.
Competitors in the Golden Globe Race are not permitted to use GPS, autopilot or modern navigation tools — relying instead on paper charts, sextants, and traditional techniques.
If she completes the crossing, Mara will be the first Norwegian woman to qualify for the Golden Globe Race.
