The International Laser Class Association (ILCA) has published the Notice of Race for its 2026 World Championships in Dun Laoghaire, confirming a major update to the event’s format.
As Afloat reported in October, publication of the Notice of Race was held pending a decision on the format.
Under the new rules, the top ten-ranked boats at the end of the penultimate day will advance to a two-race medal series on the final day. Competitors not qualifying for the medal round will sail one additional opening-series race.
The complete competition format will be detailed in the Sailing Instructions, to be issued closer to the event.
The Notice of Race also introduces a potential on-course OCS detection system, requiring boats to use a start-line monitoring device. Details of the system will be published by 31 January 2026.
Con Murphy, Chair of the 2026 ILCA World Championships in Ireland, confirmed the publication in a message to organisers on Monday. “The NORs for both the Men’s and Women’s Championships were published today,” he said.
The men’s and women’s event pages are now live on ILCA’s website via the upcoming events list or directly at 2026ilca7men.ilca-worlds.org and 2026ilca6women.ilca-worlds.org
The championships, hosted by the Royal St. George Yacht Club and the National Yacht Club, will bring the world’s top dinghy sailors to Dublin Bay in summer 2026.
