Twenty-five National-level Results Managers from clubs across Ireland gathered at the National Yacht Club last Saturday for an advanced Race Results Management course.

The event marked a first of its kind, bringing together officials from across the country ahead of a busy international season.

Leading the session was Sailwave scoring specialist Huw Pearce, recipient of the RYA Cymru Wales Impact Award. With the ILCA World Championships set for Dún Laoghaire in September, Pearce focused on managing qualifying and final series racing.

He also outlined ways to enhance published results to better support event sponsors and explained a streamlined electronic tally system. The system has already been trialled at the 29er World Championship and is scheduled for further use at major regattas this season.

Also presenting were Liam Lynch and Gordon Davies. Lynch delivered an overview of the ECHO handicap system and other rating formats used in Irish racing.

Davies addressed the evolving role of Results Managers, noting the shift towards broader Event Data Management. He highlighted increased use of digital protest systems, electronic tallies and integrated race management platforms.

The course forms part of Irish Sailing’s Race Officials development pathway and strengthens Ireland’s capacity to deliver world-class competition at home.
