England leads the inaugural Irish Sea Nations' Cup of sailing after the first two events - the Welsh IRC Championships and the Scottish Series.

The top-scoring boat at the Welsh IRC event was Xpletive (Mike Crompton) from South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club and Pwllheli Sailing Club, while the top visiting yacht was Adam Kyffin's Corby 29 Eazitiger from the Liverpool Yacht Club.

In Scotland, the top yacht was Brian Hall's J109 Something Else (National Yacht Club), with England's Headhunter (Ovington/Batchelor) of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club in 2nd place.

The Irish Sea Nations' Cup consists of four regattas, with points awarded to the best-scoring boat from each country and bonus points to the country with the best ratio of visitors.

Remaining Events:

  • July 10-13 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta
  • July 19-20 IRC Northern Ireland Championships

It is evident that nations have the opportunity to enhance their score by increasing the number of boats travelling to away events.

Nations Cup organisers say all sailors can be sure of a warm welcome at each and every one of these regattas, with an opportunity to represent your country with a prize for the best country performance.

About the Irish Sea Nation’s Cup

Four regattas in 2025 in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Wales have combined to develop the Irish Sea Nation’s Cup, fostering goodwill and encouraging regatta participation by visiting yachts.

The regattas are:

  • May 2-4 IRC Welsh Championships
  • May 23-26 Scottish Series
  • July 10-13 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta
  • July 19-20 Northern Ireland IRC Championship

After all four regattas, the winning nation will be awarded the Irish Sea Nation’s Cup.

Each nation will be ranked in order depending on the performance of the best keelboat of that nation at the regatta. Bonus points will be awarded to the Nation with the best percentage of visiting boats,
