Dubarry of Ireland has equipped an all-female offshore sailing crew for a historic attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy.

The Irish marine footwear brand is supporting The Famous Project, led by skipper Alexia Barrier, as the team targets the first women’s benchmark time for the non-stop round-the-world record.

The crew is sailing aboard the trimaran IDEC SPORT, one of the fastest offshore multihulls ever built.

Their challenge is a non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation starting and finishing on the line between Ushant and Lizard Point.

The Jules Verne Trophy is regarded as one of offshore sailing’s toughest tests, demanding speed, endurance and teamwork over more than 40,000km.

The current outright record was set in 2017 by Francis Joyon and his crew on IDEC SPORT in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds.

“No all-female crew has ever held this trophy,” the release states, describing the attempt as a first for women in offshore sailing.

Dubarry has supplied its Crosshaven offshore sailing boots, designed for extreme conditions and long-duration ocean racing.

The company said the boots were selected for their durability, grip, waterproof performance and safety features.

The Famous Project departed the start line on Saturday, 29 October at 14:40 French time, officially launching the record attempt.

The campaign aims to challenge the traditionally male-dominated history of the Jules Verne Trophy while setting a new reference for women’s offshore sailing.

The Jules Verne Trophy is currently being contested by at least two major teams: The Famous Project (all-female crew) and François Gabart's SVR Lazartigue, both aiming to break the world record for the fastest non-stop circumnavigation.
