A ferry exhibition and related talk will feature as part of the Rosslare Harbour Festival on the weekend of 17-18 June and where a wide range of other free events will be available for all tastes.

At the Rosslare Harbour Maritime Heritage Centre, on Saturday at 1 p.m, a talk will be about the Irish Red Cross Hospital in St. Lo, Normandy. This is where the hospital was set up in 1944 so to treat injured soldiers during WW2. The talk will be hosted by Leo Coy.

Following this the Centre at 2 p.m will have the presentation “Maritime and Social Relations between Ireland and Normandy over the Centuries” by Dr. Michel Aumont, a maritime historian from Normandy. The talk is in association with the Wexford Normandy Cultural Association.

The Maritime Heritage Centre will also stage an exhibition on Stena’s yet to be introduced cruiseferry, Stena Vision for the Cherbourg route , with a farewell to Stena Europe on the Fishguard service. In addition Afloat adds, Irish Ferries recent replacement ferry, Oscar Wilde for the Pembroke route.

In the Memorial Garden at 2 p.m., Brendan Wickham, Brewen Favreau and other musicians will perform traditional music, and at 3 p.m. there will be a Norman re-enactment courtesy of a local heritage group.

At 4 p.m pupils from Kilrane National School will perform their own composition; Je t’aime Rosslare Harbour.

More from Independent.ie on this festival held in close proximity of Rosslare Europort which has seen a dramatic rise in ferry traffic post-Brexit. 

Afloat adds other maritime events include on the Sunday at 12 noon will be the 'Blessing of the Boats' ceremony held in the Lagoon and at 2 p.m. the Wexford/Rosslare Cot Sailing Display held in Rosslare Bay.
