Eight boats and more than 60 sailors took to the waters of Donegal Bay for the 2026 Mullaghmore Regatta, enjoying two days of competitive racing despite challenging Atlantic conditions.
Strong south-westerly winds of 15–25 knots tested crews throughout the weekend, producing close racing across the fleet. While conditions proved too strong for racing on Sunday, the regatta's Race Committee adapted the schedule, successfully completing all six races over Friday and Saturday to ensure competitors enjoyed a full series.
Taking overall honours was Blind Squirrel, helmed by Colm O'Flaherty, whose consistent performances secured both the Overall IRC and ECHO titles.
Individual race prizes were also keenly contested, with Jevan, helmed by Ken Draper, taking home the Pier Head Trophy.
Mullaghmore Sailing Club Commodore Jen Farrell praised the efforts of everyone involved in making the event a success.
“The conditions certainly kept everyone on their toes, but they also delivered some great racing. A huge credit goes to our Race Committee for their flexibility in adapting the schedule and making the most of the weather window available. It was fantastic to welcome visiting boats from Rosses Point, and I’d like to thank every competitor and volunteer who helped make another enjoyable regatta possible.”
The club also acknowledged the visiting boats from Rosses Point for making the trip to Mullaghmore, adding to another enjoyable weekend of racing on Donegal Bay. Thanks were also extended to the Race Committee and volunteers, whose commitment ensured the regatta ran smoothly despite the weather.
With another successful regatta complete, Mullaghmore Sailing Club now looks forward to the remainder of the sailing season, building on another enjoyable weekend both on and off the water.
