A crew member has died following a serious accident aboard Walross 4 during the RORC Transatlantic Race from Lanzarote to Antigua.

The yacht is operated by ASV-Berlin and was competing in the race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

The incident occurred at sea on Sunday. The injured crew member was transferred to a nearby freighter under the coordination of rescue services.

Despite these efforts, the crew member later died.

ASV-Berlin said it is “in mourning” and expressed deep sympathy with the family of the deceased.

The remaining crew aboard Walross 4 are receiving professional care while en route to their destination port.

The Royal Ocean Racing Club is supporting the crew in coordination with ASV-Berlin’s management.

Deb Fish, Commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, said: “On behalf of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the crew member.”

“Our thoughts are also with the yacht’s crew at this profoundly difficult time,” she added, thanking emergency responders for their professionalism.
