SailGP returns to Bermuda this week as 12 international teams prepare to race on the Great Sound in the fifth event of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship. The Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix marks SailGP’s return to the island after a one-year absence, with more than 5,000 spectators expected across the race weekend.
The fleet of identical F50 foiling catamarans is expected to reach speeds approaching 100km/h in Bermuda’s tight stadium-style racecourse. This year’s event includes an expanded spectator area at Morgan’s Point, alongside performances from local artists DJ Rusty G and Kassie Cains.
Emirates Great Britain and BONDS Flying Roos duel at speed
Australia’s BONDS Flying Roos arrive as championship leaders following victory at the Enel Rio Sail Grand Prix. The Australian crew now leads reigning champions Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team by seven points in the standings.
New Zealand’s Black Foils will miss the Bermuda event as repairs continue following the team’s Auckland incident earlier this season.
Nathan Outteridge and Sweden’s Artemis Racing arrive with momentum after securing their first SailGP podium finish in Rio. Outteridge described the result as “a big step in the right direction” as the Swedish team pushes to establish itself among the title contenders.
The United States SailGP Team also enters the event in strong form after climbing to third overall in the championship standings. Driver Taylor Canfield credited the team’s improvement to disciplined preparation and a stronger focus on data analysis and consistency.
Meanwhile, Emirates Great Britain seeks to recover after finishing at the bottom of the fleet in Rio despite leading the championship before the event. Driver Dylan Fletcher admitted the British crew “didn’t sail well enough” during the previous regatta but said the team is focused on a reset in Bermuda.
Defending Bermuda champions Los Gallos also return, looking to rebuild momentum after a mixed start to the season.
SailGP’s format sees teams compete in multiple fleet races before the top three advance to a winner-takes-all final race. The league’s one-design F50 catamarans and shared performance data are designed to create close racing and equal competition across the fleet.
