Canada Ocean Racing has announced the purchase of a foiling IMOCA 60, previously known as Groupe Dubreuil. The yacht, renamed Emira IV, will support skipper Scott Shawyer’s Vendée Globe 2028 campaign.
This vessel has a strong racing pedigree. It won The Ocean Race 2023 and secured third place in the 2024 Vendée Globe. “The track record of this IMOCA 60 speaks for itself,” said Shawyer.
The yacht will feature Be Water Positive branding and compete in The Ocean Race Europe and Transat Café L'OR this year. Shawyer noted it will be his first experience racing on a foiling IMOCA, adding, "It pushes me out of my comfort zone."
Last year, Shawyer became the first Canadian to finish the New York–Vendée solo transatlantic race. He completed the journey in 14 days aboard Emira I, a non-foiling IMOCA.
Sébastien Simon, the previous skipper, expressed pride in the yacht’s legacy. “I wish Scott and the team the very best,” he stated.
Canada Ocean Racing is focused on sustainability through its Be Water Positive initiative. Emira IV is designed with eco-friendly materials, including renewable energy sources and recycled materials.
“This boat gives us the opportunity to race at the highest level and support vital ocean science,” Shawyer added. The yacht also carries scientific equipment to monitor ocean health.
