Asgard Artefacts Come to the Surface

A team of Irish Divers has brought to the surface items from the wrecked hull of the Sail training Vessel Asgard II. Photographs of the dive team with the ships wheel and bell are below. The Sail training organisation Coiste an Asgard says it will be seeking the “return” of items retrieved by Irish divers from the wreck of its ship Asgard II off the northwest French coast this week. As well as retrieving the ships wheel and bell, the dive team also took extensive video and stills. The Diver team comprised as follows Frank McKenna from Kilkenny, Brendan Flanagan from Longford, Timmy Carey from Cork, Eoin Mc Garry (expedition organiser) from Waterford, Philip Murphy from Kilkenny, Stephane Portrait originally from Brittany (now resident in Cork), and Yann (boat skipper Belle Ile).

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
