A renovation project to transform a former historic Mersey ferry costing millions into a floating restaurant and bar venue in Liverpool is next month to be officially opened to the public.
The MV Royal Daffodil—originally Overchurch of 468 gross tons, for more than six decades took thousands of passengers across the river connecting Liverpool and the Wirral Peninsula.
In November 1998, the ferry, which was enlarged and renamed as the flagship, remained in service for more than a decade; it was decommissioned in 2012, which led to it falling into disrepair.
Built in 1962 on Merseyside at the shipyard of Cammell Laird, Birkenhead, but the now renamed Daffodil is to undergo a £3.5m project. Behind the directors Josh Boyd and Philip Borg-Olivier, the former actor of the soap drama Brookside. The directors have now confirmed the facilities, comprising a restaurant, bar, and events space in Canning Dock, will open for the first time on 9 December.
Work to transform the Daffodil is to involve the creation of around 50 jobs through the new venue, which was first signed off by Liverpool Council in June last year.
