World Sailing is calling for exhibition event proposals for the 2026 and 2027 World Sailing Championships. Successful submissions might also be considered for future World Sailing events and for the Olympic Games programme starting in 2032.

The updated format of the championships includes the option to hold invitational events, and applications are encouraged from various sectors of the sport. Proposals will be evaluated based on World Sailing’s Olympic Vision criteria. David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The World Sailing Championships provide a unique opportunity to showcase events that align with our vision for the future of Olympic sailing.

As Afloat reported in June, the World Sailing Championship will split format for the first time, with Valencia in Spain and Gdynia in Poland both selected to host the 2026-2027 event.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games introduced Men’s and Women’s Kite for the first time, demonstrating the success of invitational events, such as those held at the 2018 Championships in Aarhus.” Interested parties should email the World Sailing Executive Office at [email protected] to obtain the bid document, which must be completed and returned by January 20, 2025.

To ensure transparency, a Working Party comprised of cross-committee experts will evaluate all proposals against Olympic Vision criteria, making recommendations to the World Sailing Board for consideration in February 2025. For further details on the Olympic Vision, visit here
