World Sailing has elected two new vice-presidents at its 2025 General Assembly in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland.
Dr Sophia Papamichalopoulos OLY of Cyprus received 45 votes. Corinne Migraine of France received 36. Both were elected in a single round.
The results ensure gender parity on the World Sailing Board, in line with the constitution. Each will serve a three-year term.
Other candidates were Kay Rawbone (Hong Kong, China) with 26 votes, Aiko Saito (Japan) with 24 and Anne-Sofie Munk-Hansen (Denmark) with 15.
Member National Authorities approved World Sailing status for the X-15, Formula Wing, RS Venture Connect, 11 Metre One Design and VX One. Each class can now stage World Championship events.
World Sailing status
Applications to withdraw World Sailing status for the Melges 20, X-35, B14 and RS500 were also approved.
The Assembly backed a recommendation to create a Classification Sub-Committee to support the Para World Sailing Committee. Several cross-committee appointments for 2026 were confirmed.
Four events were placed under review for the 2032 Olympic Sailing Competition: Mixed Dinghy, Mixed Multihull, Men’s Kite and Women’s Kite. These will be evaluated and tabled at the 2026 General Assembly.
Earlier in the week, the World Sailing Council approved a revised neutrality policy. It sets conditions for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) at World Sailing events.
